Film Distribution (and companies)

The company most likely to distribute our film would be the Warner Bros. Pictures, as they show a wide variety of films including the same genre (thriller) as ours. Some of its recent productions that are similar to our project are The Dark Knight (2008), The Departed (2006) and V for Vendetta (2006), which all deal with the idea of corruption and have a dark and/or mysterious setting and storyline.

----------

What is distribution?
A company that distributes films is responsible for its marketing, launching and circulation of movies in theaters, cinemas and home-viewing (i.e. DVDs). Without distribution, films are unable to become well known, and therefore it is a great responsibility of the company to make the film as available as possible.

General procedures for film distribution in the UK
1) Producer/company acquires rights to film a story or treatment
2) Screenplay is developed
3) Production, finance, cast and crew are confirmed
4) Principal photography takes place, in studios and/or on agreed locations, followed
by some months of post-production, editing and scoring
5) Master print of finished film is delivered to local distributor
6) Distributor determines release strategy and release date
7) Distributor presents the film to exhibitors and negotiates agreements to have the film shown in cinemas

Target Audience

Our film will be aimed at older teenagers/young adults between the ages of 16-20 as we feel they will relate well to the main character, who will be shown as their age, and because of this they will be able to understand the story and how the characters are feeling. Although several characters are older adults, the story centers around the viewpoint of the main character, so we feel they will be able to understand the events happening as she does.
In addition to this, we feel that the plot of this story will interest our target audience as it is set in their environment and shows what could happen if the government were different - because of this we hope to appeal to young adults that have an interest in politics and the idea of its corruption (although the story is completely fictitious).
